Amar is a Licensed Psychologist in North Carolina with over 7 years of experience providing therapy and other psychological services. Amar earned a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Clinical Psychology from Central Michigan University in December 2018.
Amar enjoys working with teens (ages 13+), adults, and couples. As an openly queer and trans person of color, Amar's experiences of both privilege and oppression greatly inform his clinical practice. They infuse themes of multiculturalism, social justice, intersectionality, and feminism into therapy as needed. Amar has worked with the LGBTQ+ community for most of their clinical career, and have training and a particular passion for working with transgender, non-binary, genderqueer, and other gender nonconforming clients. He is also a sex positive, kink-friendly therapist who has successfully provided services for individuals in the polyamory community.
In addition to identity development, Amar is passionate about helping people work through PTSD, complex/developmental trauma, depression, stress and anxiety, family of origin concerns, adult child (ACA/ACoA) issues, life transitions, and grief and loss. Amar's approach to therapy involves relational, psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral (CBT), mindfulness, and existential work. His goal is for each and every client to feel safe, heard, understood, and supported as they move through their process of healing and growth.
