Denise Cerniglia

RWC Intern

Denise is a pre-licensure Clinical Mental Health Counseling Intern pursuing her master's degree at North Carolina Central University. Before entering the counseling profession, Denise spent thirty years as an arts educator. That experience continues to shape her work as a counselor, foundational to her belief that healing occurs through connection, creativity, and honoring each person's unique strengths.

Denise's approach is grounded in person-centered therapy, emphasizing the healing power of an authentic therapeutic relationship characterized by empathy and collaboration. She also integrates acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), helping clients develop psychological flexibility. In addition, Denise draws from narrative therapy, supporting clients in exploring the stories they have inherited or developed about themselves while identifying strengths, resilience, and opportunities to author new, more empowering narratives.

Denise enjoys working with teens and adults navigating anxiety, grief, trauma, life transitions, and those who may feel reluctant to seek counseling. She has experience working with LGBTQ+ and neurodivergent individuals and is committed to providing culturally responsive, neurodiversity-affirming, and trauma-sensitive care that recognizes each client's strengths and lived experiences.
